The Open Your Own Doors Project

As an early member of the technology workforce, with a technology career spanning four decades, I believe others like me hold the key – that our collective pasts can change the future and that our collected wisdom will open the doors for many other women in technology who will follow in our paths.

For that reason, the Open Your Own Doors project will create a body of collective wisdom, harvested from 100’s of women globally, on topics such as negotiation, entrepreneurism, working with mentors, authenticity, and balance. The goal of the Open Your Own Doors project is to create sustainable careers for women who are early and mid-career can find satisfaction.

So you’re a woman thriving (or is that surviving?) in technology.

Kudos to you!

Women in tech careers tend to log long hours, shoulder most of the organizational tasks and lead flawlessly, all while earning less than their male counterparts.

You opened your own doors. And now, you can help change the trajectory of women around the world.

It’s time for you to create something impactful and inspirational for those women coming up the ranks behind you.

get involved

Lend your experience and voice to Open Your Own Doors, a creative initiative I launched in early 2019. The goal of OYOD is to capture and catalog our stories and experiences to create a body of work that will inform and educate future generations of women in technology.

Among the topics we’ll tackle: gender parity, negotiation, sexism, racism, and more.

I’m looking for mid-career women to participate in our series of surveys — women who are willing to share their first-person experience.

Once completed, the book and related content will be leveraged for women of the next generation, by men wanting to be stronger allies, and by academics and organizations wanting to better understand the real life of a professional woman in technology.

Women around the world are with you, and have often blazed the path that you’re now walking.

you are not alone. let’s go.

Why Open Your Own Doors?

To succeed, to sustain, at anything it required effort, direction and intention. Consider those aspects as it relates to the simple act of opening a door:

01.

Effort

It could be a pull, it could be a push, but there will be effort!

02.

Direction

When that door opens – it will propel you in a direction of your choosing (we hope!)

03.

Intention

A desire and intent to open that portal and what steps come next is critical.
